All You Need is Love

One of my friends and I are making signs to sell at our craft show in a few weeks.  I love the simple, sleek look that the signs have.  With the wood being from a 150 year old barn there isn't any need in making the paint anything fancy.  The texture of the wood is simply amazing.  I have done a few that are just the wood with stenciled writing on them, and this one is painted black with words on them.

I started by priming the wood and then I painted it black.

Once the wood was ALMOST dry, I took a paper towel and wiped the wood.  It allowed some of the old paint on the wood to show through.  Then I used a pencil and traced my letters on the black.

I painted the words and sanded the entire piece to get the aged feel.

You can see the difference here between the sanded portion and non-sanded portion.  I definitely like the sanded portion better.

Here it is in my foyer.  I think it adds something to the area.  I sooo need to update the metal squares on the wall.  Ugh... what to do??
