Equipment

  • baking sheet
  • mixing bowl
  • pastry cutter

Ingredients

  • 3 large baking apples (we use Honeycrisp)
  • cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • ½ cup homemade whipping cream
  • 1 pie crust, refrigerated pie crust is fine

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Lay your crust on the parchment.
  • Peel, core, and slice your apples. Add to a large mixing bowl with sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, unsalted butter, and salt. Mix well.
  • Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of flour over the crust and layer apples in a circular pattern, leaving 2-3 inches from the edge to ensure you can fold the pastry over the side of the apples.
  • Fold pastry over the edge of the apples. Brush crust with the beaten egg. Sprinkle entire tart with sugar.
  • Place the galette in the oven for 50-60 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
  • Let the galette cool for a few minutes before serving. Add a dollop of whipped cream and enjoy!

Notes

Basic Pie Crust Ingredients

If you want to try your hand at a basic pie crust (FYI.... it's incredibly easy), then follow these simple steps:
  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup butter, cold and diced (I dice mine and pop it in the freezer for 15 minutes before using)
  • ¼ cup ice water

Basic Pie Crust Steps

  1. Combine flour and salt in a large mixing bowl and mix.
  2. Use a fork or pastry cutter to cut in the butter until they are pea sized
  3. Stir in water slowly until a dough ball begins to form
  4. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 3 hours (I like to make mine a disc shape so it's easier to roll out when I need it.)
