Garlic White Sauce
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- ¼ cup parmesan cheese
Pizza Toppings
- 2 crusts homemade or store bought
- 1 medium Ribeye steak or Flank steak, thinly sliced and seared
- 1 sliced green bell pepper
- ½ small onion, diced and caramelized in a cast iron skillet
- 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
Pizza Crust
- 1 cup warm water
- 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cups bread flour, use BREAD flour for best results
Garlic White Sauce
Melt butter in small saucepan. Add in flour and whisk continuously for 2 minutes being careful to not let it brown.
Add milk to the butter/flour mixture slowly and whisk until thick.
Whisk in the salt, pepper and garlic.
Remove from heat and stir in the parmesan cheese until melted.
Pizza Toppings
Slice and sear the steak in a cast iron skillet on medium-high heat.
Move the steak to the outside of the pan and add in the onions to the center of the cast iron to caramelize them.
They are ready to add to your pizza.
Pizza Crust
In a large mixing bowl (I use my mixer), stir yeast and honey into warm water.
Let it sit for 5-10 minutes or until you see that the yeast is doing its job.
Pour in salt, oil and half the flour and mix.
Once that flour is incorporated, start adding flour in bit by bit until you get the pizza dough to the consistency you want: slightly tacky, but when you touch it it doesn’t stick to your hands.
Once you reach this stage, knead for 6 minutes.
The dough should be smooth and easy to work with.
And the bowl should be clean!
Lightly grease the bowl & the dough so it doesn’t dry out, cover with plastic wrap and let it rise 1-2 hours.
Assembling the Pizza
Preheat the oven to 425°F. Add your cast iron to the oven to preheat.
On parchment paper, roll out half of your pizza dough or one premade pizza crust.
Top it with your garlic white sauce, making sure to smooth it out close to the edge of the crust.
Add your steak and onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, and top with plenty of cheese.
Drop the parchment and pizza onto the hot cast iron and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
Repeat this process with the second pizza.
- Shredding cheese at home has many benefits. It melts perfectly, adds to the freshness, and it has great flavor.
- You can also grill your meat for a charbroiled flavor. Slow cooking your steak and letting it rest is also another option for enhanced flavor.
- If you like a little heat, consider adding crushed red pepper flakes to the crust.
