Equipment

  • 1 casserole dish

Ingredients

  • 100 grams active starter, ½ cup
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

Make Dough

  • Melt butter, milk, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan on low heat.
  • Add to a stand mixer with dough hook and allow to cool to warm.
  • Add starter and flour and mix until elastic and the bowl is clean.
  • Cover and rest for 8 hours or overnight.

Divide Dough

  • Grease a 9 x 13 pan
  • Divide dough into 16 rolls (you can divide them into 8 rolls if you prefer a larger roll) and roll into dough balls. Place in the greased baking dish.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and let the rolls rise for 2 hours.

Bake Rolls

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Brush melted butter on top of the rolls.
  • Bake for 25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Notes

You might wind up with some soft rolls leftover after your meal. Not to worry – these rolls will stay soft and fresh for 3 to 4 days after baking, as long as your store them in an airtight container on the counter. Don’t put them in the fridge! They will become hard and stale.
