- 7 cups sliced apples
- 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 7 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- ¼ cup water
- 1 cup sugar
In a saucepan on medium heat, melt the butter.
While the butter melts, whisk the water and cornstarch together in a bowl.
Slowly whisk the cornstarch slurry into the butter.
Turn up the heat until you get a low boil and whisk continuously until the mixture begins to thicken.
Remove from heat.
In a large bowl, add your apples, cinnamon, and sugar. Mix to coat the apples.
Pour the butter mixture over the apples and stir thoroughly.
Once cooled, use in a prepared pie crust or store it for later in a ziploc bag in the freezer or a large mason jar.
If you're going to use the pie filling right away, it's best to cook it on low heat in a large saucepan until the apples soften and cook a bit.
Cool it and pour it into a pie crust to bake the rest of the way.
