Equipment

  • 1 cast iron skillet

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup butter
  • 6 pork butt steaks
  • 3 tbsp chopped green onions
  • tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ cup soy sauce (or liquid aminos)

Instructions

  • Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Stir in soy sauce.
  • Add green onions and garlic powder and cook until fragrant and onions are soft.
  • Add pork steaks to the pan and turn to coat each side in the sauce.
  • Cover and cook on medium heat for 8-10 minutes.
  • Take the lid off and keep cooking until the steaks are completely cooked, about 10 minutes.
  • A meat thermometer should read 145°F when inserted into the steaks.

Notes

  • For best results, let the meat come to room temperature before cooking to allow for juicier tender pork steaks.
  • Using a paper towel, pat both sides of the meat to remove any moisture. This will allow the steak to get a great caramelized exterior.
  • Before you add the ingredients to the pan, make sure that the skillet is screaming hot. Cast iron skillets are the best for cooking the perfect steak because they conduct heat so beautifully. You should hear the steaks sizzle as soon as they hit the pan.
  • In order to keep your steaks from drying out, make sure that you are checking the internal temperature frequently with a meat thermometer. You want to pull the steaks of the stove once the temperature reads 140 degrees F.
  • Make sure that you allow your steaks to rest for at least 5 minutes so that the juices redistribute and meat stays nice and tender.
