Equipment

  • 1 pancake griddle or cast iron skillet
  • 1 glass bowl medium
  • 1 measuring cup
  • ½ teaspoon
  • 1 spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf brioche bread cut into 1" slices
  • 6 eggs large
  • cups milk
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Heat a pancake griddle or cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. If using a griddle, set it to 350-375 degrees F.
  • In a medium glass bowl, whisk up all of the ingredients except for the brioche bread.
  • One slice at a time, dunk your brioche and turn over to coat the other side. Make sure the edges are coated in the batter also.
  • Lay your battered brioche on the hot griddle and set your timer for 4 minutes. Let the brioche cook and then flip. Cook on the other side for another 4 minutes.
  • Remove the French toast, add a pat of butter, maple syrup, or powdered sugar to the top and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make sure you take off the paper on the bottom of the brioche slices before making the French toast.
  • It's helpful to mix the egg custard in a shallow dish. This allows you to be able to dunk several bread slices at the same time.
  • For a richer French toast, melted butter in the skillet helps to make it taste even better.
  • Make sure you buy pre-sliced brioche bread to make it easier to prepare the French toast.
  • You can make the egg mixture the day before to save time.
  • Day old or slightly stale bread works best as it soaks up the egg mixture better.
