1 apple peeler
1 sharp knife
1 8 x 8 baking dish
- 6 large green or red apples
- ½ cup water
- 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and diced
- 1 teaspoon corn starch
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease an 8 x 8 baking dish.
Peel and slice your apples.
In a large mixing bowl, combine your water, flour, and cornstarch. Whisk until the corn starch is dissolved.
Add your brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, lemon juice, and nutmeg and mix well.
Add the apples to the bowl and mix. Pour them in the prepared baking dish and top the apples with the diced butter.
Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Stir every ten minutes.
Make even slices to ensure the apples all cook uniformly.
Use a tart apple to compliment the sweetness of the cinnamon mixture.
Test your apples and bake them until the are soft with a slight crunch to them. You don't want them mushy. It's like pasta. Cook until al denté.
