Blondie Batter
- 1 cup unsalted butter, for browned butter
- 2⅓ cup all purpose flour
- 1½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1⅔ cups light brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Apples
- 2 cups apples, peeled and chopped
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Maple Frosting
- 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup confectioners sugar
- ¼ cup maple syrup
Make the Batter
Begin by making your browned butter. Place 2 sticks of butter in a saucepan on medium heat. Stir constantly until the butter forms a film on top and turn a brown color- about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat.
In a large bowl of your electric mixer, add the dry ingredients- flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg- and whisk.
Add in the eggs, vanilla, and cooled butter. Mix well.
In a bowl, combine the diced apples and ½ teaspoon cinnamon. Mix and then add to the batter. Mix until combined.
Pour the batter in your prepared dish and press down so the batter fills the dish.
Bake in a preheated oven for 35 minutes, or until the blondies are golden brown. Let them cool while you make your frosting.
Maple frosting
Add your cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and maple syrup to the bowl of your electric mixer and whisk until smooth and creamy.
Once the brownies have cooled, pour your frosting on top of the brownies and use a spatula to spread it all over the blondies.
- Don't overmix: When you're mixing the wet and dry ingredients together, be careful not to overmix. Overmixing can result in tough, dense blondies.
- Use parchment paper: To make it easier to remove your blondies from the pan, line it with parchment paper before baking.
- Add a sprinkle of sea salt: A small sprinkle of sea salt on top of your blondies before baking can really bring out the flavors of the brown butter and apples.
