1 9 x 13 baking dish
Sandwiches
- 1 package 12 hawaiian rolls
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 1 pound deli roast beef
- 2-3 tablespoons butter
- ½ medium yellow onion, sliced
- 1 tablespoon onion flakes, for topping the rolls
Au Jus
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ½ tablespoon Worchestershire sauce
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
Sandwiches
Butter the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Slice the hawaiian rolls horizontally and place the bottom in the baking dish.
Layer the cheese and the beef.
In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon butter and sauté the onion until golden and caramelized.
Add the top of the rolls and brush the tops with melted butter. Sprinkle onion flakes on top.
Bake for 20-30 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese in melted.
Au Jus
In a small saucepan, melt the butter and whisk in the flour, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking. Add the Worchestershire sauce and let the au jus simmer until it thickens just a tad.
Serve in a small dipping bowl with the sandwiches.
- Toast the buns: Toasting the buns adds an extra layer of flavor and texture. Brush the buns with melted butter and toast them in the oven or on a griddle.
