6 Simple Essential Oil DIYs
DIYs can feel overwhelming, which is why I created this post to share 6 simple essential oil DIYs that you will love!
I’m not much of a DIY girl, so you know that if I’m sharing one, it must be good.
Today, I’m not just sharing one, but six amazing essential oil DIYs that I use regularly and make over and over.
The best part about these recipes is that they require many of the same ingredients and most of which you probably already have at home.
Each of these essential oil DIYs tends to a different area: fresh air, fresh linens, fresh face, and fresh skin.
1. DIY Room Spray
Who can resist a good essential oil DIY room spray? Whether freshening up a room after tidying or using in a bathroom for guests, this room spray works so well!
This comes together in a few simple steps with simple ingredients. Once you combine them, shake gently and mist the air with the yummy DIY room spray.
One of the main reasons for making this spray is to keep the air free of toxins. Conventional room sprays are full of yucky ingredients that hang in the air for hours and hours as you breathe them in.
This spray leaves a space smelling fresh without the threat of yucky chemicals. To be honest, it actually helps purify the air while it freshens it!
Let’s get to the recipe!
DIY Room Spray Ingredients
- 8 ounce glass spray bottle
- 2 tablespoons witch hazel
- 20 drops essential oils
- Fill bottle with water
DIY Room Spray Instructions
To use your room spray, gently shake the bottle and mist the air. Don’t shake vigorously as you will disrupt the oils. A gentle turning of the bottle is enough.
2. Shower Steamer Recipe
Showers are typically a time of quiet and relaxation. The hot water naturally produces a steam that opens the airways and pores, but what about making the experience even more spa-like?
This essential oil DIY shower steamer recipe is simple and also a great gift idea for those ladies that love being pampered.
Shower steamers are placed on the floor of the shower and the hot water activates them. They fizz and the essential oils are released into the air.
You can create whatever scent profiles you love. A few of the most popular are:
- Tea Tree and Lavender
- Eucalyptus and Peppermint
- Lavender, Peppermint, and Lemon
- Lemon and Rosemary
DIY Shower Steamer Ingredients
- 2 cups baking soda
- 1 cup citric acid
- Essential Oils
- Witch Hazel
- Silicone molds
Shower Steamer Recipe Instructions
- Mix baking soda and citric acid in a bowl until combined
- Add your desired amount of essential oils
- Spray with witch hazel until the mixture will come together in your hands. It should feel like wet sand.
- Press into the silicone mold and let them dry in the molds
- Pop the shower steamers out and keep in an airtight jar
3. Homemade Face Serum
Face serums can be costly and full of synthetic fillers. A cost effective way to get the benefits of a serum without the yucky ingredients or pain on the pocketbook is by making a homemade face serum.
One of the main benefits of face serums is that they are oil-based. They don’t strip your skin, but rather plump it up and moisturize it. This tells your skin that it doesn’t need to overproduce it’s own oil, which helps to reduce breakouts.
This DIY is as easy as dropping ingredients into a glass bottle. Seriously, it takes minutes to put this serum together, but the results are amazing.
Face serums moisturize and create a luminous glow to the skin. Your face will thank you for making this homemade face serum!
Homemade Face Serum Ingredients
- 2 ounce amber glass bottle with dropper top OR 2 ounce glass bottle with a roller ball top
- 5 drops Lavender
- 5 drops Frankincense
- 5 drops Blue Tansy
- Jojoba Oil
Homemade Face Serum Instructions
- Add each essential oil to the glass bottle
- Fill with Jojoba oil
- Gently shake and use 3-5 drops of the Serum to moisturize your skin
4. DIY Linen Spray
Bedding has a tendency to smell stale in between washings. Years ago, I made a DIY linen spray to help combat the lack of freshness that would come about a day, or two, before the next linen washing.
This DIY linen spray is wonderful for freshening sheets or mattresses and pillows. Strip your bedding off of your bed and spray a mist over your mattress and pillows.
This spray not only helps the smell of the room, but the essential oils have disinfecting properties, as well!
DIY Linen Spray Ingredients
- 4 ounce glass amber spray bottle
- Water- to fill the bottle
- Witch Hazel- 1 tablespoon
- Essential oils- 20-30 drops
DIY Linen Spray Instructions
- Add 1 tablespoon of witch hazel to the glass bottle
- Drop in 20-30 drops of essential oils
- Fill the bottle with water
- Close bottle, gently shake, and spray on linens

5. DIY Bath Salts
Taking a bath can feel like a luxury. It doesn’t happen often, so when it does, make it extra nice with DIY bath salts.
A great way to get the most out of your bath salts is to put them in a large glass jar with a lid and scoop. When you want to take a bath, scoop some salts out and dump them into the bath as the water is filling.
These bath salts smell incredible and also soften the skin.
DIY Bath Salts Ingredients
- 3 cups epsom salts
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 20-40 drops of essential oils
DIY Bath Salts Instructions
- Add epsom salts to a glass jar and pour the baking soda in with it. Mix.
- Add the essential oils and stir until combined.
- Use one scoop of salts for a relaxing bath.
