Welcome! My name is Liz and I’m so grateful you’re here!

Welcome to The Quick Journey, where you will find simple tips and tricks for the modern homemaker, homemade recipes you’ll love, home decor inspiration, and even a few posts on classic style for the chic homemaker.

I am married to my high school sweetheart, Mark, and we have four amazing children- Ella, Liam, Guinnyth, and Julia. We got married right out of college and lived in the city for a few years until we had our first child. After that, we hungered for a slower pace and moved to our hometown, which is a town of less than 800 people with no stop lights.

It was just what we needed until our kids got older and we realized that it would be beneficial to move closer to friends and our church. Long story short, it took two more moves, but we are finally home.

Simple Recipes

In our house, we love to belly up to the table and fellowship over good food and conversation. I grew up eating supper around the table every night and that has been a tradition that I’ve carried on in my own home.

Being in the kitchen is one of my favorite pastimes, so it should come as no surprise that creating recipes and perfecting old recipes is something I enjoy putting my hand to.

Whether I’m making breakfast (try my PancakesOvernight oatmeal bake, or Biscuits), homemade bread (try my sourdough french bread or artisan bread), supper (MeatloafItalian Sausage and PeppersTaco BarTaquitos), or dessert (CheesecakeMini CakesChocolate Chip Cookies) you will find that my love for being in the kitchen runs deep.

It has been a joy to share the fruits of that hobby with you all!

Simple Homemaking

I grew up with a wonderful mom who showed me what being a homemaker looked like. She was a great example and is much of the reason why I stay home and tend to the home today. Simple homemaking is a passion of mine and something that I love writing about. I even dedicated an entire eCourse to Cleaning!

If you want to know more about my simple homemaking tips and tricks, check out my Kitchen Essentials for Homemakers post and my post on being an Efficient Homemaker. I hope they are helpful for you as you are on your homemaking journey. I even share tips on cleaning your home quickly.

And, if you’re a really new homemaker, be sure to learn how to wash sheets and fold a fitted sheet the proper way here. 🙂

Gardening has been a hobby that has blossomed for me the past several years and I enjoy sharing bits of my journey and things I’ve learned with you. I have written a couple of posts about Bare Root RosesPeonies, and Herb Gardens on the blog and I plan to write more as I slowly tackle the art of gardening.

Simple Homeschooling

Homeschooling is one of those things that I never anticipated being a part of my life, but alas, here we are… ten years into our homeschooling journey. It has been one of the most fulfilling jobs I’ve ever had and that’s why I write about simple homeschooling here on the blog.

My hope is to encourage the mama who is putting her hand to the plow and homeschooling her children. It can be exhausting and there’s a lot of doubt that can creep in along the way, but it is a journey that produces a great reward.

I have written several posts to help you with your homeschool:

Simple Homeschool Room Ideas for beginners
An Easy Guide for Homeschool Planning
Easy Homeschool Lesson Planning with Free Templates
Homeschool Curriculum for Preschool to 2nd Grade

Those are just a few of the most popular posts, but if you want more of the nitty-gritty details, check out my Simple Homeschool eCourse.

Making a Home

There’s so much that goes into making a home feel inviting and cozy. My goals when it comes to our home is to create a space that feels beautiful and peaceful. I want my family to feel like they can exhale when they walk in our doors, and that’s exactly what I think about when I do anything regarding home decor.

I have written on a few things that I get questions about often. These are simple things that go into making a house a home.

Simple Style

Chic Style for Homemakers

Getting ready every morning and brushing my hair has been a slow progression for me ever since having my first child. Through the trenches of early motherhood, I lost a bit of who I was when it came to style and fashion. I just wanted the comfiest outfit on so I could fall back into bed as soon as possible the next evening.

As my kids got older, my desire to look presentable grew with them. I started small and slowly began to create a chic style that worked for me as I tended to my home. If you are needed a bit of chic style encouragement to help you as you are in the trenches of motherhood, be sure to check out these posts:
