This is a simple meal that uses up all of those odds and ends you have left in the refrigerator, but it tastes like the best comfort dish ever.

You will love how quickly and easily this one-pan meal whips up.

My favorite part is the filling, but my kids love the fluffy cheese bread topping that bakes up golden and gooey in the oven.

Skillet meals are the perfect way to get dinner on the table without making a mess in your kitchen.

You cook everything in one cast iron skillet and pop it in the oven to bake it off.

Why you’ll love this one-pan skillet meal

  • Time- You can throw this meal together in no time and with little effort!
  • Ease- Aside from browning the meat, which you do in the same pan you cook the one-pan meal in, and chopping the vegetables, it is as easy as it comes.
  • Taste- The best part about this meal, besides how simple it is, is the flavors that come together. You can even tweak the seasonings to your liking.
  • Texture- The warm filling and fluffy, cheesy bread is a perfect pairing.

Ingredients for Sausage Skillet Dinner

  • Ground Pork Sausage- I used a mild, Italian sausage, but you could easily use any ground sausage you prefer, even a breakfast sausage.
  • Bell Peppers- I used 1 of each, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, and yellow bell pepper.
  • Onion- Dice 1/2 of an onion and sauté it with the other veg.
  • Shredded Cheese- I used cheddar cheese, but use what you have! I have used parmesan and pepperjack cheese before.
  • Flour- This is the base for the cheesy bread.
  • Water
  • Eggs
  • Salt
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Baking Powder- This will help give some rise to your cheesy bread topping
